A golden sunrise in the high country

A special morning in the mountains of Colorado: The high country had received a nice dusting of fresh snow overnight and some of the snow clouds were still lingering in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, as well as quite a bit of fog that was drifting slowly throughout the gigantic red Mountain Valley at the base of the Rockies. This photo was taken and the magic moment, when the first rays of the rising sun found a few openings in the cloud and fog, illuminating, the granite faces of the high peaks and eventually flooding the entire valley with stunning golden light.
The somewhat dramatic atmosphere - created in this photo mostly by the brilliant light and the threatening clouds and the lingering fog - remind me of the iconic paintings of the West done by legendary painter Alfred Bierstadt…
Enjoy !!
