Two full moons: size & shape
On 11/05/2025 08:53 pm by Tom Tan | Melbourne, Australia
Many people will have a photo of this full moon in November.
The media has said this moon is bigger.
So I went back in my files to look for a smaller full moon in April but I was off by two days.
By accident I decided to "align" the November moon, by rotating it.
I realized I may have a picture of Libration, the moon's wobbling from side to side.
The April moon showed more on its left edge (next to a dark crater) and less on its right edge (next to another dark crater). I don't think these are caused by the moon not being full. I think because the moon has not completed its monthly cycle of wobbling from side to side, the difference in looks showed.
Maybe your readers will skip this photo and not click to read this text about Libration.

2 photos of full moons in November and April overlaid and lined up.
I have rotated the November moon to match the two moons.
Then cropped.
