This image was captured from backyard with my wide-field imaging rig. The object is NGC 1499, The California Nebula. It is a large emission nebula in the constellation Perseus. It is called the California Nebula because its clouds of ionized Hydrogen gas resemble the shape of the US State. This large star forming region is about 1,800 light-years from earth.
