Brown Pelican

A brown pelican flying about by the ocean. Brown pelicans are large birds with a wingspan of nearly 79-inches (2.0 meters) and a body length of 54-inches (1.3 meters). They are often seen on the coast arriving in the spring and staying through the summer and fall. Having come from their southern breeding grounds, the one I captured today still sport their breeding colors as noted in his yellow head, bright poppy red gular (throat) pouch and the distal end of his bill reddish.
