The Colors of the Rising Moon

I began this session with the intention of capturing an airplane crossing in front of the rising Moon. Although that moment never happened, the long session resulted in a collection of videos documenting the Moon’s journey from just above the horizon until it was high in the night sky.

This composite sequence shows the remarkable color transition during moonrise, as Earth’s atmosphere filtered its light. From deep red to orange to the familiar silvery tones, the changing hues highlight both the beauty of the Moon and the subtle atmospheric effects at play.
