Golden Triangle: Crescent moon, Venus and Jupiter

On 08/20/2025 06:18 am by Tom Tan | Melbourne, Australia

For those who looked at this photo, Thank you

Jupiter is on top, at the tip of this "triangle".

Yesterday the moon, Jupiter and Venus were in a line but they were much wider apart and looked too small. Today they were at their closest, bigger and brighter.

The crescent was visually thinner and much more golden and brilliant. Venus was bright as always. But the sun was rising and Jupiter did not stand out in the bright sky.

I saw Jupiter's three moons in a line too when I zoomed in but I had not thought of setting the focus on them.

I hope you can see in this photo what I saw in the sky this morning
because the eye can see better.

I only had a window of minutes between Venus clearing the treetops and sunrise.

I shot a whole range of ISO and shutter speeds.
Here is a sample, a 1.3 second shot at ISO 100 and f/5.6.
My lenses have coma and dark corners so I closed down from f/2.8 to f/5.6.
