Sunset Crown: Planned Alignment and Unplanned Visitor

On August 2, 2025, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, I captured a planned sunset alignment where the Sun’s disk would appear exactly behind a rooftop water tank antenna. Using the PhotoPills app, I calculated the exact date, time, and position from which the alignment would be visible.

As the Sun descended toward the horizon, something magical happened — a bird unexpectedly landed on the antenna right at the moment of alignment. This unplanned addition transformed a precisely calculated shot into a once‑in‑a‑lifetime moment, adding life and storytelling to the scene.

I shot this image with a Canon 1500D and Sigma 150‑600mm Contemporary lens at 516mm, f/22, ISO 1600, 1/640s. The narrow aperture preserved the Sun’s sharp circular outline while capturing the warm gradient of the evening sky.

The image is a combination of celestial mechanics and serendipity — a reminder that while we can plan the alignment, nature often surprises us in the most beautiful ways.
