The Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae
On 07/17/2025 09:30 pm by Catherine Hyde | Website | Shandon, CA, USA
This is M8, the Lagoon Nebula, and M20, the Trifid Nebula, in the heart of the Galactic Center. I took this from my observatory near Shandon last night, because it's too foggy here at the coast. It's about four hours of 180-second images (76 subs), stacked.
Williams Optics RedCat51 scope, Nikon D810A camera, Astro-Physics Mac2GTO tracking mount.
I separated stars from nebulosity with Star Xterminator so I could stretch the background more than the stars. But it's fairly minimally processed.
