Reflections of a leap into the air

The trumpeter swans are special, nearly went extinct, recovered from a small population in Alaska. The numbers are getting better. These are the largest North American birds. Their takeoff is like a jumbo jet, slow with a long takeoff roll until they slowly take flight and then lift the feet (landing gear). There are a couple of breeding pairs in Anchorage and it is so special they are on the front page of the local newspaper.
