More moons of Saturn with Neptune 9 July
On 07/09/2025 05:28 am by Tom Tan | Melbourne, Australia
A clear dark sky is rare in winter here.
Saturn can barely be seen but Neptune not at all.
I wanted to shoot Neptune but it is hard to locate. Instead I use Saturn to get Neptune into the frame. The moons are a bonus.
I wanted to focus on the tiny moon to the right of Saturn but found it easier to focus on Titan to the left.
After that it was just shooting with the tracker on, hoping the dots would stay round
with a fast shutter speed as the tracking mount had not been precisely aligned.
William Optics 61 360mm
Nikon D7500 1.5X
tracking EQ mount, aligned with a compass
Saturn & moons: I tried to brighten the moons and keep Saturn from blowing up
Saturn in one layer, Neptune in another layer over it, moved up to under Saturn.
Zoomed in and cropped.
