Crescent Nebula and Star Clusters in Cygnus – Captured from UAE Skies
On 06/27/2025 01:15 am by Tameem Altameemi | Website | United Arab Emirates
This wide-field image captures a beautiful section of the rich Cygnus constellation, featuring the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) and a collection of open star clusters.
Objects in the image:
• Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888): An emission nebula formed by the stellar wind from the massive Wolf-Rayet star WR 136. Located about 5,000 light-years away.
• Sadr (γ Cygni): The bright star near the center, marking the heart of Cygnus, surrounded by rich emission nebulosity.
• Open Cluster IC 4996: A young open cluster close to Sadr, containing bright blue stars.
• Open Cluster NGC 6910: Another open cluster near Sadr, known for its concentration of hot, massive stars.
• Cooling Tower Cluster (NGC 6913, also known as M29): A compact cluster of young stars embedded in the nebula-rich region of Cygnus.
This image was captured from the UAE under Bortle 4 skies, revealing the intricate structure of hydrogen and oxygen gases glowing around these deep-sky objects.
