Moon at 2%

The Moon at 2% illumination represents one of the very first phases following the astronomical New Moon — the exact moment when the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, with its sunlit side facing away from Earth, making it invisible to the naked eye.

With 2% of its visible surface lit by the Sun, the Moon begins to emerge from the solar glare, usually visible for only a few brief minutes after sunset, very close to the western horizon.

This thin luminous arc is generally difficult to observe due to its low altitude in the sky and short visibility window after sunset, but under ideal conditions like today, it can be seen clearly with the naked eye.

I found it curious how the moonlight passed through the branches in front of the lens, creating a soft, almost ethereal effect.
