Light Layers

The vast and incredibly scenic Wet Mountain Valley in South-Central Colorado is a high alpine valley, stretched out in between the Rocky Mountains (including about dozen peaks more than 14,000 ft high!), bordering the valley to the West and the Wet Mountain range reaching more than 12,000 ft high in the East. Summer is considered to be "monsoon season", bringing almost daily heavy thunderstorm to the valley. And locals know, that these thunderstorms also regularly create spectacular light shows, when the sun projects rays through breaks in the clouds, illuminating the verdant valley floor in many different hues of green and yellow - as documented in this photo, taken shortly after a severe thunderstorm had pummeled the valley with a deluge of hail and rain. But when the sun found some openings in the clouds, the valley and foothills literally started glowing with layers of light. Truly a feast for the eyes!
