Fireflies and Aurora
On 06/26/2025 01:53 am by Garth Battista | Website | Halcottsville NY (Catskill Mountains)
A dream come true — fireflies flashing their yellow-green mating signals as a geomagnetic storm lights the sky with dancing magenta pillars.
This image is a blend of a single shot for the sky, taken at 1:53 a.m. as the aurora substorm peaked; plus a stack of images showing the cumulative bioluminescence emitted during five hours of firefly mating.
