Broken Wing Tactic

Witnessing a Killdeer performing a "broken wing display" is a great opportunity. It's a clever tactic to protect their nests & young, feigning injury, fluttering, & emitting distress calls. This draws the predator's attention away from the nest, leading it on a chase away from the far enough away, then flying off. In this case it was distracting a family of geese walking by.
