Barn Swallows: Just-Fledged

These four young barn swallows had JUST fledged within the last hour. Making it to this high branch of the Oregon white oak about fifty yards from their mud nest was an accomplishment given their not fully developed wings or flight skills. This parent will be feeding them for the next week and the young will remain with the parents for up to six months. I watched these babies for several weeks on the nest and just happened to catch the miracle of them fledging last weekend. Ahhh - awe!
