Perfectly clear skies on Friday 30th May, provided very good views of the late afternoon Sun setting at 4.55 pm followed by the Waxing Crescent Moon descending in a colorful volcanic sunset from 5.27 to 6.15 pm. The accompanying montage, which include a time-lapse sequence of 199 still images, were taken from a vantage point in my back garden. It provides an almost complete record of the transition from sunset to the development and fading of early and late volcanic sunset twilight arches produced by aerosols still lingering in the stratosphere. The views are enhanced by the presence of the descending 16% illuminated Waxing Crescent Moon which becomes clearer and brighter as darkness approaches. In some of the final images the Gemini stars Castor beneath Pollux are visible below the Moon.
Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset and manual exposure modes.
Compilation of montage of 20 selected still images from a time-lapse sequence of 199 taken between 4.55 and 6.15 pm on 30th May.
