Scorpius Risiing
On 05/25/2025 10:48 pm by Kamala Venkatesh | Website | Lake Henshaw, San Diego, California
Was hoping to photograph the Milky Way core over this beautiful lake. However, the clouds had other ideas....they obscured the core, but the constellation of the Scorpius was clearly visible.
Seen in the middle of the constellation is Antares, the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpius." It has the Bayer designation α Scorpii, which is Latinised to Alpha Scorpii. Often referred to as "the heart of the scorpion.""
It is the brightest star, almost red in appearance to the naked eye. In this image, it is in the center of the top half of the image.
