Eagle Nebula (M16) – Pillars of Creation in the Heart of the Milky Way
On 05/03/2025 01:00 am by Tameem Altameemi | Website | United Arab Emirates
This breathtaking image captures the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16), located about 7,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens. The nebula is home to the iconic “Pillars of Creation,” vast columns of interstellar gas and dust where new stars are born.
Captured with the ZWO ASI183MM monochrome camera using Hα and OIII narrowband filters, this image integrates nearly 5 hours of exposure time to reveal the glowing structure of the nebula in exquisite detail.
In this HOO palette, hydrogen-alpha appears in deep reds while oxygen-III adds a vibrant purple-blue glow, highlighting the nebula’s turbulent interior. The stars were gently reduced in post-processing to emphasize the sculpted shapes of the gas clouds.
Photographed under the skies of the United Arab Emirates.
