Fireflies in Blackout

Portugal and Spain were plunged into darkness by a massive power outage and I hadn’t realized just how perfect that would be for astrophotography until I stepped outside. It felt like I’d suddenly been transported to a quiet village in Alentejo, so I grabbed my gear and headed just a few meters from home.

And then—there they were.
Fireflies.

A scene I hadn’t witnessed this vividly since childhood. Glowing everywhere, like tiny embers dancing over the grass. I stood there in awe as a vivid dream, camera in hand, surrounded by a sight I thought I’d lost to time and light pollution.
