Sometimes you get lucky. Really, really lucky.

Eastern Nebraska doesn't see many White-Faced Ibis. This breeding male stopped at a local lake and was fortunately reported on a birding website that I follow. I lucked out twice; first when I got to the lake and the Ibis was still there, and second when it took off for a short hop to another spot on the mudflats where it was feeding, and a hazy mid-day sun lit up its amazing colors.
