Heron couple building their new summer home

It's great blue heron nest building time here in eastern Nebraska. These herons are part of a colony of eighteen herons. Last spring and summer they lived in nests about a mile away from their current location. When a golf course was built under those nests during the winter, and the herons returned here a month ago they didn't like having humans that close and have been methodically disassembling their old nests and using the sticks to build new nests in their new location (on the edge of a small forest and corn field which is about to be transformed into a new housing subdivision, so perhaps the herons will move again next year). It was a remarkable transformation, watching the colony of herons shuttle back and forth hundreds of times as they moved the nests one stick at a time into trees 75-100 feet above the ground.
