Blue Eclipsed Moon over New Mexico
On 03/13/2025 11:30 pm by Rich Richins | Website | Las Cruces, NM (USA)
While tinkering with color settings, I noticed a consistent blue coloration in front of the advancing (dark red) umbral shadow. My buddies tell me it's from atmospheric ozone that allows some blue light into the penumbra immediately in advance of the umbra to be detected.
Orion ED80 Telescope + Canon T2i DSLR.
Combination of 1/400 sec + 1 sec images (ISO 800). Color saturation cranked up for the shorter images then aligned the two images and selected the brighter colors using Photoshop.
