The image focuses on the western side of the moon where “Mare Crisium” and “Mare Foecunditatis” are visible. These are the black patches visible on the lunar surface which were formed 3.9 billion years ago during the formation of the moon. These black patches or Mare Basins are visible from the Earth through the naked eye too.
