Moonlit Polar Clouds
On 01/16/2025 08:45 pm by Felipe Menzella | Website | Abisko, Kiruna, Sweden
On the night of January 16th 2025, a gorgeous waning gibbous moon emerged from the north-est horizon, and to everyone's surprise, it positioned itself exactly behind some huge Polar Stratospheric Clouds. This year we've had some fantastic PSC's displays, but on that night the people and photographers of the very north of Sweden got the memory of a lifetime. As the moon climbed, it back-lit the clouds in the most surreal way, showcasing dazzling rainbow colours that lasted for hours.
Photography wise, I managed to frame the event by capturing it from the frozen shores of the Torneträsk lake, which reflected its light beautifully.
