Pied-billed Grebes are called part bird, part submarine. They are expert divers and use their large bills to kill and eat large crustaceans along with a great variety of fish, amphibians, insects, and other invertebrates. They are relatively small, measuring 11-15" long and weigh about 8-20oz. I find them in almost all bodies of water where I do bird photography including fresh and sea water.
