The Wolf Moon and Mars Rising Above Alcatraz Island

I went to capture the wolf moon rising over Alcatraz in the San Francisco Bay, this particular angle often makes a nice composition during the months of January and February. The early moonrise was very colorful with many shades of pink and purple in the sky as it went in and out of clouds. A bit later, just when I was ready to stop the shoot as the sky lost much of its color, I captured this image which I felt was less interesting than many earlier. When I got home and looked on a full size computer screen I realized that I had captured not only the wolf moon but the planet Mars around 90 minutes before the occultation.
