River Beauty

A great egret standing on an old log on the river.
They are beautiful birds. The one in the image could be a non-breeding adult or a juvenile. Males and females are identical in appearance, and juveniles look like non-breeding adults.
The great egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society (a nonprofit environmental organization in the U.S. dedicated to conservation of birds and their habitats), which was formed in part to prevent the killing of birds for their feathers.
