After 3 cold nights of nothing in Iceland, (and 2 years after we spent a week in Rovaniemi, Finland to see the Northern Lights...and we saw NOTHING)...our quest was finally fulfilled. It wasn't supposed to be a strong night, but little by little the odds increased on the various aroura chaser websites. We left our hotel at 11pm to drive 4 miles down the road to find a deserted, dark spot that gave us line of vision around the large mountain by our hotel. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn kept me company as I stood watch, with the family in the car (winds were 30 mph!) At 11:45, in the northeastern sky, 5 pillars appeared almost out of nowhere. The show was amazing, and lasted about 25 minutes.
