Red sun at the solstice

The solstice sunrise was blocked by bushfire smoke from the south. When the sun was finally visible about 30 minutes later it was vivid dull red. We saw sunspots on it with the binoculars. It shimmered as the bands of smoke passed over the surface and looked almost Jupiter-like at times with the dark and light banding
