Wintering tundra swans and cackling geese (Aleutians) are among the transient inhabitants of the marshes and ponds at the wildlife refuge. There are at least 200 swans and hundreds. even more than a thousand geese. It is both fascinating and calming to watch them and hear their vocalizations. In the image farthest right is a tundra swan upending, half his body underwater feeding on submerged aquatic vegetation and invertebrates.
