I love photographing ice, and with freezing fog in the forecast, I knew exactly where to go to capture some beautiful rime formations on horse hair. When deciding if you're photographing hoarfrost or rime, knowing the weather conditions leading to the formation is important. Hoarfrost grows under cold, clear nights, while rime is a cold-weather fog formation. Examining how securely it's attached can be a deciding factor if you are uncertain of the weather conditions. Hoarfrost can be swept away with a slight breeze. Not so rime.
