It is the best time to see sandhill cranes at sunrise and sunset I read. This was taken at twilight as they are flying back where they roost. They are flying past Mount Hood. They have a distinct guttural gurgling or bugling call and I hear them before I see them. The sandhill cranes are among my favorite birds.
They stage at Sauvie Island in fall and winter then they fly south to the southern United States and north Mexico.
