Venus through Twilight Colours

On 11/02/2024 06:00 pm by Soumyadeep Mukherjee| Singalila National Park

There are some images, which, after you create, makes you happy. This is one of them. The image was never planned and I came across the idea earlier this morning. Besides creating an image, what made me happy is that it was very close to how I imagined it to be. Those who have been with me in the field will know I have some serious obsession with Venus, and this image fulfills that!

The image shows Venus as the Evening Star in the varying backgrounds of twilight colours. As twilight progresses, the background stars, including the Sagittarius arm and nebulae are slowly revealed. The change in colours and background within the same twilight period ranged around 26 minutes during this period and latitude. A brief explanation of twilight is below:

Civil: Sun is 0°-6° below the horizon
Nautical: Sun is 6°-12° below the horizon
Astronomical: Sun is 12°-18° below the horizon
Night: Sun is more than 18° below the horizon

The images span 3 days (30th Oct, 31st Oct, 2nd Nov). After the idea came to me, I started looking for all the Venus images from my recent trip and sorted around 20 images. Finally, eight images were chosen that matched the timing and composition.
