Celestial Visitor Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)
On 10/14/2024 by George Bokovos | Aggeloxori, Greece
Easily visible from a dark sky, this is a photo of comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), taken with a DSLR and a 50 mm lens on October 14th, 2024. Despite the thin clouds, I was able to glimpse the comet nucleus about 45 min after sunset, about halfway between Venus (bright star at lower left) and Arcturus. Then after about 20 minutes, it was clearly visible with unaided eye and magnificent through binoculars.
Camera: Canon EOS 6D, mounted on tripod, unguided.
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II@f2.5
Frames: 20 x 5 secs each, ISO 640
Developed in Lightroom Classic, stacked with Sequator and final processing in Adobe Photoshop.
