Solar winds
On 10/13/2024 07:19 pm by John Ashley| Sonoita, Arizona, USA
The solar wind is blowing a dust tail off the coma of Comet A3 that's tens of millions of miles long. Now that this comet has ricocheted around the sun and is outward bound, the dust tail points generally (not exactly) in the direction that the comet is headed — kind of the opposite of what you might think. Here the sky and foreground are illuminated by a waxing 84% moon. Windmill is at the Empire Ranch in Las Cienegas National Conservation Area (public lands!).
