I read on Earthsky that due to the strong solar storms the northern lights might be visible tonight so I thought I'd check out the northern sky, not feeling hopeful because the waxing moon shines bright on the southwest and might wash out the northern lights. So when the camera picked up the northern lights I was stunned and very delighted. The grayish color below the green glow is the seemingly constant offshore marine cloud layer over the ocean horizon. The Big Dipper is on the left of the image.
