The Eagle Nebula ( M16 or NGC 6611 )
Is an open cluster of stars in the constellation Serpens. The Eagle is in reference to the silhouette near the center of the nebula, and area made famous as the "Pillars of Creation" imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. The Nebula contains several active star forming gas and dust regions. The Eagle Nebula lies about 7,000 light years away in the Sagittarius arm of the Milky way.
