Smoke-Hazed Murahwa Mountain Sunset
On 09/29/2024 05:17 pm by Peter Lowenstein| Mutare, Zimbabwe
On Sunday evening, after another very hot day, the smoke-hazed Sun shining through thin cloud was recorded setting exactly behind the rocky summit of Murahwa Mountain. The brightness of the Sun was so attenuated that sunspots being produced during the current high level of activity in Solar Cycle 25 were visible through the viewfinder of the camera as it descended. During the half-hour after the Sun had disappeared bright light from a hidden volcanic sunset twilight arch which had developed behind low fast-moving cloud close to the horizon peaked to produce a spectacular reflected orange glow which almost matched that which had accompanied the earlier setting Sun.
