Green Flash On The Pacific Ocean
On 09/27/2024 07:04 pm by Cecille Kennedy| Oregon Coast, Oregon
The green rim on the edges of the sun indicates the onset of the ephemeral green flash in the lower image. The green flash phenomenon occurs because the Earth's atmosphere causes the sunlight to separate or refract into different frequencies.
Although the blue component of the Sun's light is the last to disappear below the horizon, the blue is preferentially scattered out of the line of sight, and the remaining light ends up appearing green. [Source: Wikipedia]
