White-tailed Doe & Yearling

On the side of the road I spotted a White-tailed doe, and a yearling (in it's 2nd year). During the summer they have a red appearance until they shed their thin coat in August & September. The Winter coat replaces the short reddish hair with longer brownish-gray hair. Winter coats allow deer to survive the northern winters, having important thermoregulatory qualities.
