Harvest Moon and Rocky Mountains
On 09/18/2024 06:19 am by Christoph Stopka| Westcliffe, Colorado. USA
I took this image of the full Harvest Moon vanishing behind the Colorado Rockies from my location at about 9,000 feet elevation in the foothills of the Wet Mountains, shooting to the West with 500mm across the entire vast, high alpine Wet Mountain Valley. And the view was simply breathtaking, when the Harvest Moon started dropping behind the 14,000 foot granite peaks of the Rocky Mountains, shimmering with a light coating of fresh snow that had fallen during the night, while perfectly on cue the first light of the rising sun was illuminating the landscape surrounding the moon! And the icing on the early morning cake was of course the bright yellow patch of aspens, glowing in the high country below the ridge line. No doubt, it doesn’t get much better than this…
