Rough Skin Newt: Beware! It packs a lethal neurotoxin.
On 09/17/2024 07:06 pm by Steve Price| Prince of Wales Island, Craig, Alaska
I found a rough skinned Newt in the driveway of the lodge on Prince of Wales Island while on vacation. It looked a bit dry so I located it closer to the wet rain forest.
Google says this :
Rough-skinned newts are a species of amphibian that can be found in Southeast Alaska. They are poisonous and should be handled carefully. They have small bumps on their skin that secrete a neurotoxin that is 10,000 times more toxic than cyanide.
No more newt wrangling for me! Lol!
