On 09/02/2024 11:50 pm by Steven Bellavia| Mattituck, NY
The brighter portion of the shark (though still very faint) is LBN (Lynds' Bright Nebula) 535, and the dark head (or the eye) of the shark is LDN (Lynds' Dark Nebula) 1235. The two blue-white areas are reflection nebulae vdB 149 and vdB 150.
Together, this region is known as the Shark nebula, or the Dark Shark Nebula. They are about 1,000 light years distant.
Also in the image, but not remotely close, at approximately 100 million light years away, are several galaxies. PGC 67347 (bottom right) is 129.5 MLY and PGC 67671 (upper right of the bright center star, 16 Cep) is 80.6 MLY away.
