Full Supermoon Rising
On 08/19/2024 05:50 pm by Peter Lowenstein| Mutare, Zimbabwe
Between 5.46 on 5.58 pm on 19th August the first of four Supermoons in a row in 2024 (more information at https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/what-is-a-supermoon/ ) was observed rising above a ridge In Cecil Kop Nature Reserve from a viewpoint at the eastern end of Murambi Heights. As the moonrise coincided with another volcanic sunset both Moon and sky were tinted orange by reflected light from a bright twilight arch on the opposite horizon. A series of close-up still images (see accompanying montage) and a short real-time video clip (to be posted as a Disqus comment) were obtained of the beautiful Moon appearing and rising above some trees on a hill crest.
Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset mode with x60 zoom magnification.
Compilation of montage of nine selected views from a series of 69 still images taken between 5.46 and 5.50 pm.
