Magnolia
On 08/12/2024 12:53 pm by Cecille Kennedy| Agate Beach, Oregon
The magnolia trees are still blooming and one cannot help leaning in, perhaps lowering a branch with a flower and breathing in its exquisite fragrance. Inside the large white ivory sepals and petals is a cone like structure the curly uppermost part of which are the female floral organs. What looks like matchsticks are dozens and dozens of stamens having shed their pollen, now fallen into the embrace of the petals and eventually scattered by the wind. The flowers turn light brown after a few days, the cone inside turn a stunning deep purple with intricate scars from the abscised stamens.
