Aurora Meteor
On 08/12/2024 04:16 am by Christoph Stopka| Westcliffe, Colorado USA
What an awesome and completely unexpected treat: My wife Cathy and I had planned to view the peak of the Perseids during the pre-dawn hours this morning. But the summer monsoon thunderstorms were still active with thick clouds all around our area, and we were starting to get worried that we might miss the event. But eventually the nasty weather mellowed out and we got comfy in our chairs in the middle of our meadow. I pointed my camera to the West (Milky Way), South and East and got some great shots of meteors in each direction. The North was still shrouded in clouds, slowing moving out.
After a while I fired a test shot up North, because I detected a hint of color in the Northern sky. When the photo lit up on the screen of the camera, I almost fell off my chair: The Aurora was shimmering in purple, pink, yellow and neon-green, with the last storm clouds adding more drama to Scenery! And to top it all off, the meteors were zipping through the brightly colored skies!! I knew right away, that these would most likely be photos of a lifetime…
