and the lucky winner is...

The Black Skimmers were nesting on a public beach. The Dept of Fish and Wildlife had put a fence around a large area where these birds were nesting. There were a couple hundred birds. Some of them had recently hatched, others were a week or two old and still many birds still sitting on eggs in the sand. This was too good an opportunity to pass up seeing these very unusual birds. The males would fly off to find food and bring it back for both their mate and chicks if they had some. I did see males feeding small fish to their young.
