Hairy the hunter

Some damselflies, like this one, let me get fairly close. It was also later in the afternoon than I usually shoot, and sometimes they have settled down from their hunting by then. I used the favorable angle of the afternoon sun to highlight the damselfly's hair (a challenge since the entire damselfly is about an inch long; this is one of fifteen shots I took to get it just right). The hair act as sensors, helping it to be a more successful hunter. It uses the hair on the legs to form a basket to collect and hold its prey, which it can then munch on as it flies around.

Nikon D7000 DSLR and a vintage (mid 1970s, very sharp, a favorite lens of mine although heavy, a real boat anchor of a lens) Vivitar 75-260mm lens at 260mm. F/6.7, 1/640 sec, ISO 800.
