Dinner time for a Cecropia Moth caterpillar
On 07/29/2024 07:58 pm by Judy Boyle| Whitehall, Montana, USA
I discovered eight of these Cecropia Moth caterpillars eating away at a Chokecherry bush. I have learned so much about them, and have been watching them grow. I recorded one of them eating, and I could actually hear him chopping away. I am keeping an eye on their numbers to see if any birds are eating them, and I am interested in seeing if I could raise them if a few have been eaten. I adore their faces and love how they use their stubby legs to hang onto the stems as they eat. I can't wait to see the moths. They are from the family of Saturniidae or giant silk moths. The females can have a wingspan of +6 inches, amazing!
